Most recaps of how crime fiction evolved hopscotch over stretches of time, preparing to jump at the 1841 publication of Poe’s “The Murders in the Rue Morgue,” then leaping to the publication of Conan Doyle’s first Sherlock Holmes story in 1887, “A Study in Scarlet.” From there the toes might drag over the 1908
I agree. I believe I've read at least one mystery short story by her and enjoyed it. Perhaps there should be an English course focused on reading female-written detective fiction prior to Agatha Christie; I can see a lot of students signing up for that in college. (Maybe there already is such a course?) Thanks for sharing about Anna Katharine.
I'm glad you found something of hers to read. I've never come across a book of hers anywhere! And no mention of her in college either. It's scary how authors can disappear from view ...
Your mention of authors how authors disappear from view triggered a thought in my mind. Maybe we need a course on authors who were once popular (or even bestsellers) and now have gone "extinct" for various reasons, or are in danger of becoming extinct. Anna Katharine would be on the list, along with others. It obviously couldn't be all-encompassing, but it still would be interesting to find out about these authors and, if possible, read something of their work.
I have to say I'm struggling with the writing. The plot ideas are good but the writing is just too ornate and a bit repetitive. I think I will end up skimming rather than reading everything.

Ideas are great. Ideas are the start of everything!
Just bought a Kindle book with a whole slew of her novels in it. I'll let you know....
Please do! I'd love to hear your review.
